Segregation exhibit to open at Nacogdoches Railroad Depot

The Center for Regional Heritage Research will open an exhibit on "Separate but Equal" public facilities on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot, 101 Old Tyler Road.From 1888 to 1954, laws in the United States required that public facilities be segregated by race. These laws mandated that "separate but equal" facilities be provided, but they were rarely equal. The exhibit explores this era and the application of the "separate but equal" doctrine to public transportation. The Nacogdoches Railroad Depot stands as a reminder of this period, as it was originally designed as a segregated facility.
The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays. The exhibit will run through Thursday, Feb. 28. For more information on the exhibit, contact Kelley Snowden at (936) 468-3953.
